Oil tanker drivers suspend stir

IMPHAL, February 3: Oil tanker drivers have decided to suspend their stir of not collecting their “Indent letter,” after an agreement was brought between the Oil tanker drivers and the Indian Oil Corporation officials at a meeting of the two parties today.

According to information received by IFP, the agreement was brought after Deputy General Manager of the IOC Assam, Phukan heard the news of the agitation launched by the oil tanker drivers and instructed his officials at Imphal to find a solution to the problem.

The IOC officials met representatives of the oil tanker drivers  and discussed the inconveniences faced by the oil tankers and made changes to the timing of unloading the oil from the oil takers.

At the meeting, the IOC officials have also agreed to issue the “Indent letter,” during the day time i.e. from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Earlier, the IOC officials were issuing the Indent letter at night time, which had led to the oil tanker drivers to go on agitation saying that receiving the indent letter at night causes a lot of inconveniences to them.

Meanwhile, 29 tankers loaded with petrol and diesel reached Imphal safely today.

However, 15 oil tankers which left Imphal on January 28 last, to fill its tanks are still stuck at Ramnagar in Silchar due to escorts not being available to provide security to bring them home.
