Oil tankers show solidarity for truck driver; refuse to unload tankers

IMPHAL, February 9: Oil tanker drivers have today refused to unload their tanks at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) depot, as well as to the oil pumps protesting against the killing of a Manipuri truck driver identified as Ningombam Govardhan (43) son of (L) N Manihar at Kohima in Nagaland on February 6.    

As usual, 51 oil tankers under All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers’ Union arrived here today at Khuman Lampak Bus Terminus (ISBT). Of these, 29 tankers were loaded with diesel, 16 tankers with petrol and 6 tankers with KS oil.

After reaching here, the oil tanker drivers condoled and protested against the killing of driver N Govardhan, who has gone to fetch sugar for the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

The All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers’ Union (AMPTDU) has demanded that the Nagaland government should  arrest the culprits and punish them at the earliest.

The union has also lauded Mukule Angami, President of the Kohima Drivers Union for extending help to the Union and added that it will extend any kind of support to the JAC formed against killing of driver N Govardhan.
