Safe blood mechanism reaches Manipur

IMPHAL, February 6: Medical science is developing with intense research in every part of world. One of the most recent remarkable milestone of medical science in Manipur is the installation and commissioning of automatic Nucleic Acid Test, often called as NAT or Nucleic Acid Amplification Test NAAT at Shija Blood Bank & Transfusion Services, a unit of Shija Health Care and Research Institute (SHRI) situated at Langol, Imphal.This was announced by Dr Kh Palin, MD SHRI today in a press meet today at the auditorium, Shija Hospitals Complex, Langol.
The most advanced science cannot invent blood and it is in need everywhere in surgery medical science. Saying that blood is first tested with Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method before it is used for transfusion, Dr Palin said that  such a method takes about 1 to 3 months to detect viruses like Hep B and C. But the advancement of medical science NAT identifies HIV virus in 6-8 days including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C which are also considered as silent killer said Dr Palin.
He continued that NAT installation in Shija Hospitals is the first ever in the eastern region of India in private hospitals. He said the USA make NAT machine which cost 2.5 crore is a Public–private partnership (PPP) model blood band funded by NEC. He said that this is one step forward in the state to serve quality health service. He further said that the Manipur is in the curtain raise in the field of medical tourism and the installation of NAT will contribute to it.
He also disclosed that the Diplomat of National Board, DNB has empanelled SHRI as a super specialist plastic surgery service provider among 7 such centres in India.
