Dairy co-operative societies warns to stop milk supply

IMPHAL, March 15: The Committee of delegates of Dairy Co-operative Societies has raised objection to the state government against the appointment of a board of administrators consisting of five members namely Dhanajoy Thingomba, Keithellakpam Nabakanta Singh, Soibam Suren Singh, Yumnam Rajen Singh, and Sanasam Lala Singh.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today T Raghu, Secretary of Thanga Dairy Co-operative Society, and Convenor of JAC against the appointment of the outgoing Board of Directors (BOD) said the outgoing Board failed to call any annual general body meeting to discuss accounts statements during their tenure from March 15, 2007 to March 14, 2013.

Adding that a regular Board has to be elected for three years term he said that even after the extension of one year term, another six months term has been extended for the outgoing BOD which is against the rule.

He then said the annual general body meeting called by the Board on January 30, 20133 at Porompat was against the stay order of the Manipur Co-operative Tribunal Court. The statement of accounts audited by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies (RCS) recently for the accumulated preceding 5 years was also detected with several manipulations and misappropriations, he said. Alleging that in spite of the financial irregularities of the Milk Union, the RCS could not take any action against the Board and the Managing Director S Shantikumar Singh, he added that

Shantikumar Singh was suspended from service on February 16, 2013 and his date of service retirement fell on February 28, 2013.

Instead of taking action against the MD and the outgoing BODs the government is encouraging them to turn the Dairy into a private firm.  The JAC has also demanded reconstitution of the Board of Administrators with the inclusion of genuine dairy farmers as members, and appointment of MD with good qualification on deputation from the Veterinary Department immediately. If the demands are not met within 10 days the supply of milk to Milk Union by the Dairy Co-operative Societies will be stopped, the JAC warned.
