`Handloom and Handicraft mela at Myanmar a grand success`

IMPHAL, March 1: W Nilamani Singh, Managing Director of the Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited has announced that the handloom and handicraft mela at Myanmar organized by the Corporation has been a grand success

Addressing a press meet at the Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Corporation office, Nilamani said that the Corporation will organize another Crafts Mella cum Cultural Show most probably in the month of October and November following a demand for the same from Myanmar. 

The Craft Mella will be participated by around 60 members and a Cultural Show will be put up by a troupe of  100 members.

The participants for the coming up Mella will be selected from all districts, he said.

He further said that the Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited organized a thematic exhibition in Mandalay from February 20, 2013 to February 24, 2013 and which was inaugurated by six ministers of the Mandalay Division. The Consul general of China; Consul General of India; Advocate General of Mandalay Division and other dignitaries from Mandalay and Yangon attended the inaugural function which was the first of its kind in Myanmar, he said.  

He further said that 21 state participants  comprised of both state and national awardees of Manipur and 15 participants of Manipuri settled in Myanmar.

There were 35 stalls of Manipur and 5 stalls of the Manipuris settled in Myanmar. 

Govindas Konthoujam, Minister of Commerce and Industries, Sericulture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Manipur gave a speech during the Thematic Exhibition on Handicrafts and Handloom on February 20th 2013 at Mandela, he said.

Oinam Sama, a state awardee said during the function that the hospitality of the Myanmarese were good.
