IMPHAL, March 1: The Joint Action Committee against the mysterious death of Ashalata blocked the Sagolband road along NH 53 today condemning her death. Lamphel police took control of the mob and cleared the road block in the afternoon.
The JAC has also submitted a memorandum regarding the matter to the Chief Minister through local MLA of 19 Patsoi A/C AK Mirabai Devi, Minister Social Welfare and Co-operation.
It was reported by the in-laws of Maisnam (N) Arambam (O) Ashalata @ Thoibi Devi w/o Arambam Kabikanta Singh that she was found dead due to hanging on February 28, 2013. The memorandum mentioned that the deceased had come to her parental house on the same day for a feast at Sagolband Loukham Leirak and left for her in-laws’ house at Sagolband Lukram Leirak at about 2pm. It added that within a short period of 1 hour she was reported dead. During her interaction with her parents on the same day, there was no indication that she was mentally unstable and she that may indulge in suicidal action.
Expressing strong suspicions over foul play in Ashalata`s death, the JAC said that there is every indication that her death was homicidal in nature which is a serious crime perpetrated against the women folk.
The JAC appealed the CM to take up all necessary actions against the culprits and to render justice.
Maisnam Bala, mother of the deceased said her daughter told her that she wanted to come back as she is not happy at her husband`s house and that she was beaten many times by her husband. At the time of death she was wearing only her inner garments and one earring was missing Maisnam Bala said, while appealing for proper investigations into the death of her daughter.
