MPP calls for common candidate against Congress for MP elections

IMPHAL, March 18: The Manipur People`s Party is set to join hands with other political parties to zero in on a common candidate against the Congress in the forthcoming MP elections. This was stated during the course of a press conference held at the office of the MPP regarding the present condition of the state in the context of the illegal drug trafficking  involving security personnel and those related to high profile people.

Speaking to the media at the press conference, former MPP MLA and adviser of the MPP, O Joy expressed his happiness over the election of N Sobhakiran as the 14th party President.  Stressing on the importance of a regional party since such an entity care and know the feeling of the people of the state, he said that in the name of the applying federal character in the country, the small states of the country are being neglected by the present Government of India.

The north east region neighbours other foreign countries need to have regional political parties in the region, he added.

The veteran politician then went on to add that the defeat of the Congress part in neighbouring Nagaland is a good lesson to the present Congress government at the centre that reflects on the mandate of the people of the state.

He also clarified that there is no misunderstanding in the party (MPP) and said that it was very unfortunate to see some news items which are published in the state that have mentioned about internal wrangles within the party.

“Our state is facing many problem regarding the drug trafficking, black marketing and day to day crime reported in the state where the security forces of state and central forces are found to be involved in the crime of drug trafficking, rape, kidnapping for ransom and other crimes in the state. It is very unfortunate that many powerful persons and high level officials are involved in drug trafficking in the state and that the topic has not been  produced before the parliament and in the State Assembly with the seriousness it deserves,” he said.

He further said that in the coming MP elections, the MPP along with other opposition parties of state will fight against the Congress government with one common candidate.

Reading the statement given by the state Home Minister that the state government will recruit police personnel as per merit and in a transparent manner, O Joy said that recruitment rally for the security forces being held in the state are on the merit of money.
