IMPHAL, April 18: Claiming that the state government has failed to respond to its appeal for the special maintenance of the Tengoupal-Sashank road before the rainy seasons, the Kuki Chiefs’ Association has said that village chiefs, students and youth leaders of Tengoupal and Machi sub-divisions have resolved to called an indefinite bandh on the Tengnoupal-Shangshak road and Shangshak road junction to Moreh of National Highway 2 from midnight of April 19.

A statement of the association has said that it has made frequent appeals to the state Chief Minister through the Tengnoupal MLA on April 3, 8 and 13 for special maintenance of Tengnoupal-Shangsak road at least upto 45kms and two important Inter-Village Roads before the coming rainy season, however the state government has not given any response to the appeals till date.

It said an emergency meeting of village chiefs, student and youth leaders was held on April 18 at Tengnoupal village which unanimously resolved to impose  an indefinite bandh until action for the fulfillment of the said demands is taken up by the government.

The bandh is however relaxed for education, health, electricity, water supply, religious and customary duties, it said.

Meanwhile all the passenger bus services which has been functioning during 1996-2011 can no longer enter this road due to its bad condition from 2011 till date and small/ light vehicles are rendering passenger service which also is very inconvenient and dangerous to the public, it said.
