IMPHAL, April 30: A hand grenade was placed at the doorstep of the school room of the Head Master today in the early morning after a sit-in-protest against the monetary demand for Rs 1.5 lakh along with intimidation to the teachers of the school by cadres of an underground organization was staged by students of Lamlai High School at Pungdongbam under Imphal East District.

According to a source, the chowkidaar of the school and students coming to school came across the hand grenade. As soon as the bomb was found, it was reported to the police without further delay. Bomb experts of the police came at around 9 a.m. and picked up the bomb which was safely exploded in the field near the school.

The source further said that a particular UG group had made a monetary demand to the teachers of the school with a mobile number written on a plain paper. Some days later, police had arrested some cadres of a KCP faction from the Lamlai area. School teachers who were charged of reporting to the police leading to the cadres being arrested were intimated to come to Moreh. But the teachers did not go. Consequently, the demand for Rs, 1.5 lakh was made again. Today’s incident occurred after students staged a sit-in-protest appealing not to coerce the school authority and withdraw the monetary demand to the school.
