Supreme Court to table Commission report today

IMPHAL, April 3: The Supreme Court of India will table the inquiry report submitted by the Supreme Court appointed Commission on alleged extra judicial killings in Manipur on April 4.

The Commission with Retired Justice of Supreme Court, Santosh Hegdre as chairman had its proceedings from March 3- 7 last at Classic Hotel in Imphal and later continued at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi from March 13 – 21.

The commission submitted its report regarding six alleged fake encounter cases to the Registrar of the Supreme Court of India after conducting hearing and cross examinations of witnesses on April 1.

The report sealed with a `confidential` tag was supposed to be submitted on March 28 but due to Holi festival, the court was closed on the said day.

The report will be look into by a Division Bench of the Court tomorrow at 10:30 am.

The report has been included as item number one in the Court number four of the Supreme Court of India.

The court’s division bench may have Justice Altab Alam and Justice Ranjana.

It may be mentioned here that the commission was initiated to conduct an inquiry following a petition filed to the Supreme Court by Human Rights Alert, Manipur and Extra-Judicial Execution Victim families Association, Manipur charging that security forces including police, commit extra-judicial killings in the state.

The commission’s members also include former Director General of Police, Karnataka Ajay Kumar and former Chief Election Commissioner JM Lyngdoh.
