IMPHAL, April 24: The demands for a regular for Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School made by the school student`s union turned more interesting today with the student body alleging that the condition of the school has deteriorated considerably after the state Education department appointed T Pramodini who was on Superannuation since December 31 as the Principal on a contract basis for one year.

The students’ body called a press conference at the school library this afternoon around 1pm.

Speaking to media persons, Finance secretary of the student body, Huidrom Bideshwori Devi said since the return of T Pramodini as the school Principal on contract basis, a total sum of Rs 5.50 lakhs remains unaccounted for.

She continued her allegation that students were unable to get copies of the school annual magazine due to the limited printing of the magazine.

There have also been incidents when individuals who were appointed as the school librarian and teachers of Home Science and Chemistry had to leave the school on their own after their appointments created a ruckus in the school.

The student representative further claimed that when the students tried to complain about her misdeeds to the concerned authorities, she threatened them saying that their mark-sheets are in her hands.

She also said that the act of the government in appointing a Retd principal again as the principal of a Higher Secondary school for a contract of one year is unprecedented in the history of the state.

Elaborating further, the student representative said the extension of service for a school teacher is practiced under a specific government rule which says that service of a state awardee teacher can be extended upto one year while that of a national awardee can be extended upto two years. “However what is unfortunate is that the said teacher is neither a state or a national awardee”Bideshwori said .

She further demanded the concerned authorities to appoint a regular Principal and also to fill the vacant post of Vice–Principal at the earliest.

She further elaborated that demands of the students include improvement of laboratory facilities and toilet and provision of a common room for the students, an office for the student union.

The demands of the students also include completion of the construction of the school hall at the earliest and bigger hostel buildings.

In case the demands are not fulfilled at the earliest, the students of the school will join hands with students of other higher secondary schools and launch democratic forms of agitation, the student representative said before adding that students have started wearing black badges from today in protest.
