IMPHAL, May 6: Decrying the attack on Child Welfare Committee chairperson Lisham Mala on Saturday last near Thoubal Haokha,various civil organization representatives condemned the attack and demanded speedy justice in booking the concerned culprit by the police.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at the Manipur Press Club today, Chairperson of CWC ( Imphal East) Keisham Pradeep mentioned that Mala was attacked while on duty and the attempt on her life was deliberate. “ We want justice to be done and the concerned culprit nabbed at the soonest,” he said.
Nonibala, Convener of Women in Governance (WING) stated that various crimes on women has been on the rise in the state and this shows the lack of effective maintenance in controlling the law and order. “Do we also need to take up arms to defend ourselves,” she asked.
Kinderson Panmei, CWC chairperson of Tamenglong also added to the effect that the police needs to be streamlined to protect women and children who are bearing the brunt of atrocities inflicted from various quarters.
The meeting was attended by CWC chairpersons of Imphal East, West,Bishnupur, Thoubal, besides representatives from Childline, WING, MACR. The organizations demanded that justice should be swift and the culprit should be booked at the soonest.
