IMPHAL, May 6: The Manipur Peoples’ Party today staged a sit in protest in front of the party’s office today against the involvement of security forces in various crimes including drug trafficking and crimes against women.

Speaking at the sit in protest, President N Sobhakiran said Manipur has been reduced to a drug transit state. State force personnel are found involved in drug trafficking cases in their full uniform with arms and their official vehicles which is the state government’s own doing, he claimed.

He continued that the government should take full responsibility for all such developments and bring an end to such incidents at the earliest.

Manipur has today turned into a lawless state, N Sobhakiran said and demanded that the state government should properly impose its laws to check such crimes in the state.

He further made a call for stringent punitive action against rapists including life imprisonment.

Manipur Peoples’ Party advisor Okram Joy who was also present at the sit in protest condemned the increasing velocity of state police personnel’s involvement in crimes.
