Md Basir remanded to 3 days police custody in Mala case

IMPHGAL, May 15:  Md. Basir Ahmed, the accused in the case of firing on child activist Mala Lisham was today hounded by women while he was being produced in court today. It may be mentioned that Md. Basir Ahmed, son of Md. Rahimuddin of Hiyangthang was arrested and detained by the police for his involvement in the life attempt on Mala Lisham, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee/Thoubal on May 3 by firing a gun on her.

Md. Basir Ahmed was arrested under Case FIR No. 85(5)2013 TBL PS V/S 307/427/351PC and 25 (I-C) Arms Act registered by Thoubal Police Station with regard to the firing incident. He was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM/TBC), Thoubal, A Nouteneshwori Devi today in the afternoon.

The Court  had remanded Accused Md. Basir Ahmed in police custody for 10 days after he was arrested on May 6 and produced in court. He was again produced in court today with the term of his remand expiring today. But since the investigations to be conducted by police against him remained incomplete, the court granted a further three-day police custody remand.

About 100 women who were waiting for Md. Basir Ahmed to be brought out of the Court stormed the court premises following which the accused and the police team around him could not get out of the campus for about one hour. 

Later, Md. Basir Ahmed was brought outside the court campus following the arrival of additional police force including Thoubal District Police Commando Personnel. But the women raged against him shouting slogans including shouting that capital punishment should be awarded to him. The women also threw old phaneks which they had  bought along with them and covered the police DI Tata in which accused was brought.
