Senior citizens on increasing crimes

IMPHAL, May 10: With drug issues and crimes like murder, rape occurring on daily basis and more often, police personnel being involved in such cases unlike in other states., how can peace prevail If the law enforcers and guardians of law continue to play with the law?

This was raised by Prof L Sadananda, General Secretary Senior Citizens for Society (SCS), Manipur in a press conference held at its office today, and said that this state of affairs should be rectified otherwise there will be anarchy in the state.

“Money addiction is the biggest disease while the root cause for all the issues is lack of value education,”he added and appreciated UCM and AMUCO for jointly organizing to observe June 18 this year.

During the press conference, Advocate Khaidem Mani and Secretary SCS strongly condemned  the cases  of crimes against women and said these needed to be properly investigated. “There are many courts but if proper investigation is not done and charge-sheets are not filed, then even fast track court would be useless,” he said.

The Advocate then went on to add that investigations would be better off if they were handed over to an independent body like CBI since the state police were failing at its job. “Fake encounters, fake surrender, drug trafficking etc are caused by corruption. As bribery is done while recruiting police personnel.”  People have started saying “Stop recruiting police personnel, it would cause to lose many paddy fields”, he added.

He asserted that good governance is mandatory to sort out issues of education, corruption, crime against women etc, and condemned the recent houses burning incident of Silent village. If the government had done land demarcation earlier, such preventable incident would not have occurred.

“The government should hold responsibility for the incident and take it seriously so that such incidents do not happen in future. Let us not make this communal”, he appealed.

The press meet was also attended by RV Minthing, Former MP and Vice President SCS.
