State lad comes in 193th in UPSC civil services exam

IMPHAL, May 3: The final results of the Union Public Service Commission conducted Civil Services Examination, 2012 was declared on Friday.

As in the past two consecutive years, the much coveted top slot has been retained by a woman.

Meanwhille, Dr Neilenthang Telien of Lower Kom Keirap, CCPur came in the 193 slot to become the highest ranker amongst the aspirants from the state this year.

A graduate of RIMS, Dr Neilenthang Telien had made it in his first attempt.

He had chosen medical science, public admn as his main exams.

Speaking to IFP on the phone, an elated Dr Neilenthang said, “I took coaching for six months and I believe that coaching helps abour 30percent while the rest is self study”.

The overjoyed Neilenthang continued “I do a lot of discussions with friends which helped me in the exam”.

On being asked if he had given up being a doctor while preparing for the exams, he said, “after mains i worked for about 2 months in lady hardinge. well i still practice medicine among friends and family….not much though”.

Dr Neilenthang started working in a mission hospital in Assam upto June 2011, after his graduation.

Continuing further he said, he started preparing for UPSC from July 2011.

“My experience of working among the poor in Assam instilled in me a desire to do something more than just medically treat people.this was my main reason of changing my career. i didn`t think much about the result. i was preety sure of getting through( though not 100 % sure)”, she concluded.
