5th session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly begins

IMPHAL, June 10: The 5th full-budget session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly has begun at 11 a.m. with Speaker of the House, Thockchom Lokeshwar Singh presiding over the session. The house with four business on the list took up obituary reference which was the first business of the session soon after the session began.

The Speaker moved the obituary reference of Late Damjakhai Vaiphei who was the Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1948–49 (before Manipur merged into India) and placed it in the House.

Later, the Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh who also holds the portfolio of Finance tabled the full budget of Rs. 3650 crores of the fiscal year, 2013- 2014 and the members of the house approved it.

MLA T Manga Vaiphei, MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Speaker Th Lokeshwar Singh spoke during the business of obituary reference.

MLA T. Manga Vaiphei who is from the constituency of Late Damjakhai Vaiphei described him as a very simple leader who worked with dedication for the people.

Stating that Late Damjakhai Vaiphei made remarkable achievements and that there is a great difference between the then politics and politics at present, he said that he expressed love for him and sorrow over his demise.

In the next business, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who is also the leader of the house moved the 5th report of the committee by Business Advisory Committee in the house and the house approved it.

The Chief Minister also tabled the full budget of Rs 3650 crores of the fiscal year, 2013- 2014 and the members of the house approved it.

As the last business of the session, the Chief Minister who also holds the portfolio of Finance presented demands for excess grants for the year 2007 – 08, 2008 – 09 and 2009 – 10 in the House, for which he got the nod from the House.

Speaker Th Lokeshwar Singh adjourned the session of the House till 11: 30 a.m. tomorrow.
