IMPHAL, June 5: “I am not too happy that we succeed in the last General Assembly Election by securing 42 seats out of the total 60. The people have given their verdict to the Congress party and so they will ask what we have done for them so far”, said O Ibobi Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur today.
He was attending a function to mark the unveiling the statue (Bust) of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and one day state level political conference of unit congress committee presidents organized by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at the Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today.
Speaking at the occasion, the CM said that the opposition parties are speaking against the Congress because they might want the government to be good.
“We should be very cautious and all the Congress workers and the Ministers are appealed to coordinate and make efforts to do something remarkable for the people”, he said.
Ibobi continued that political conferences have been conducted in each blocks to give awareness to the people about the policy programs of the Centre being implemented or to be implemented by the state.
During the occasion, Luizinho Faleiro, General Secretary All India Congress Committee (in-charge Manipur) said that he has seen Manipur marching ahead in terms of progress and development, and also seen the state suffer from bandhs, blockades and counter blockades.
Manipur is a great place of culture, civilization, of bestowed value and its people has come up in the highest level in every fields doing better than other youths of the country. The Unit Presidents represent the foundation of the Congress party, he added.
He also said the Nehru and Gandhi family has special affection and bonds towards the people of the north east especially Manipur.
Gaikhangam, president MPCC and Deputy CM of Manipur stressed on the necessity to discuss about the ideology, policy, program, principle and vision of the Congress party. People are the most important and the message of the party should be sent down to the grassroots level.
The programs of the Centre and achievements of the state should be made aware to the people. When the development graph of the state climbs to the top more and more then it will be at par with the rest of the country. We should try to accelerate the pace of development, he urged.
He said Congress party is the uniting factor of the divided opposition parties and their unification is the achievement of Congress. He felt glad that the opposition parties are uniting, and hoped that it do not turns out to be ‘united we fall’.
Exhorting that Jawaharlal Nehru is the architect of modern India, he urged all the Congress workers to work towards fulfilling the dreams of the first Prime Minister of free India.
