IMPHAL, June 5: The Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and the Theatre Mirror Manipur has today announced a one month long training programme on Shumang Leela traditions through a joint press conference.
Addressing the conference at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Wareppa Naba, president Theatre Mirror Manipur said, the month long training program will be held from June 10 to July 10 at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen.
He said, the Manipur State Shumang Leela Council has been organizing several programs and functions related with the preservation and promotion of the Shumang Leela in the world stage.
The one month long training program is one such activity, he said.
He further identified himself as the project director; Ph Gunachandra President Manipur state Shumang leela council as the program co-ordinator and H Hemanta secretary Manipur state Shumang leela council as the camp commander of the month long training program.
The training is open for both freshers and present artistes of Shumang leela, he said.
During the training, the participants will be elaborated and taught about the traditions, rituals, history, background of Shumang Leela he said and further added that the month long training will be a research oriented workshop and work for the preservation and protection of the tradition of Shumang Leela from influence from other art forms of the world.
Several other experts of the field will also attend the training and provide research oriented studies on play writing, composing, dialogue and acting and the three best trainees of each category will be given the chance to act in their next Shumang Leelas, he said.
Speaking at the press conference, Hemanta said that those who want to be a part of the one month training should enroll themselves before June 10 with the desire to produce some short plays during the training program for the trainees.
While expressing that there are several artiste in the present crop of Shumang Leela actors who have no inkling of what a Shumang Leela is, he appealed to all such artistes to join the training.
