Hatta Golapati bodies lauds Sekmai police for arrest in May 9 driver killing case

IMPHAL, June 3: Several civil organisations of Minuthong Hatta Golapati area called a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club announcing that non-locals without proper and valid documentation will not be allowed to rent rooms in the locality.

The organisations include United Minuthong Golapati Development Committee, Minuthong Golapati Athletics Union, United Hatta Development Council, Minuthong Hafiz Hatta Social Welfare Union, Hatta Golapati Minorities Social Welfare Organisation and Golapati Women Social Welfare.

Speaking at the conference, spokesperson and secretary United Minuthong Golapati Development Committee, Haji Arafat Ali lauded the state police for arresting an accused in the May 9 abduction and killing of a non-local truck driver which further lead to the recovery of cartoon boxes containing potato chips pillaged from the hijacked truck from a rented room in Hapta Golapati on June 1.

The dead body of non-local Kumud Ali of Assam, driver of a Tata truck bearing registration number AS-01/CC-2206 was found with a slit throat from along the banks of Imphal River some one and half kilometre away from Sapermeina police station on May 9.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson further lauded the Sekmai police for the arrest of three others accused on June 1 along with the bus used by them in transporting the items from the truck and the recovery of the items pillaged from the truck from a room in Hapta Golapati Tenky Makhong rented by the accused Md Sanayai.

He further appealed on behalf of the organizations to the state Home Department to quicken the investigation in the case and to befittingly punish all those proved guilty of the heinous crime.

He further appealed to all concern state departments to check the increasing numbers of the non-local population in the state especially the Minuthong Hapta Golapati and its surrounding areas.

While expressing the support of the organisations attending the conference to the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state, he further asked the residents of the localities not to rent their rooms to non-locals without proper verification or identification proof.
