Jiribam public alleges misappropriation in Municipal Council

IMPHAL, June 5: Certain sections of the Jiribam general public have lamented that the concerned Municipal office of the sub division has remained silent even after though there are complaints that the ward commissioners of the Jiribam Municipal Council are using the Computers meant for the Ward Development Committee offices at their residence and even digging wells at places which are more convenient to themselves instead of considering the needs of the general public of their concerned wards.

The sub division has altogether 10 wards with each having its own Ward Development Committee and in order to check the performance of the committees, two officials of the Jiribam Municipal are made the secretary of five wards each.

N Lakhikumar Singh has been made the secretary of ward numbers 2,3,4,5 and 10 while M Brajagopa Singh has been made the secretary of the remaining other wards which are ward numbers 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

A reliable source has informed that Jiribam Municipal council receives Rs 10 lakh each for the development of the ten wards meant especially for electrification, road maintenance and well digging.

However, complaints have arisen from the general public that the development work witnessed in their respective wards do not correspond with the said amount.

In the meantime, people of Ward No 10 has filed a formal complaint with the JMC Executive Officer against Ward No 10 Ward Commissioner M Bimol for digging a well in the ward without any consideration for the needs of the people but considering only his necessity.

People have appealed to the concerned authorities to conduct spot inspection in the wards on whether the funds allocated for the development of the wards have been fully utilised or whether it has ended up in individual pockets.
