IMPHAL, June 16: The members of Manipur Library Association (MALA) staged a sit in protest at Keisampat Lairembi community hall today demanding implementation of the Manipur Public Libraries Act 1988 organised by Manipur Library Association (MALA).
Speaking to media persons K Chaoba, founder secretary MALA said library is a place where we can acquire knowledge and it is very helpful to the students.
He alleged that the government of the state didn’t take any initiative for the welfare of library because it is a non-profitable sector.
He further said that the sit in protest is organised demanding appointment of librarians for colleges.
The library should be improved in the schools and the books should be up to date with the syllabus so that the students can refer to it and schools, colleges, higher secondary where there is no library must open one as soon as possible.
MALA’s demand also include establishment of Department of Public Library Service and to appoint a new director, to established library in each districts so that they people can get the library advantages, in every hill district library should established.
