Police detain ILP agitators

IMPHAL, June 7: Several agitators of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System were picked up by the police today for their involvement in various forms of drives to block entry of non-locals without valid identification papers into the state. The agitators who were picked up by the police include volunteers of various organizations and student wing leaders of the joint committee.      

According to reports, Democratic Student Alliance Manipur (DESAM) vice president Angamba, general secretary Arambam Thoithoi, organization secretary Sailesh, publicity secretary S Rakesh and some other members of the student body were picked up by the police at about 11 am today from the DESAM office at Keishampat Junction. 

All Manipur Student Union (AMSU) members Rohen, Bijando, Pradeep and Then were also picked up by the police from the student body’s office at Thangmeiband DM college campus.

Student Union of Kangleipak president Jayenta, organization secretary T Maradona, executive member T Sushil and others were also picked up by the police.

Kangleipak Students’ Association president Jonson, publicity secretary Angouton Khuman, deputy secretary Anil and one other volunteer of KSA were also picked up by the police today.     

National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) president Sunil Karam, general secretary Rishikesh and advisor Bishembhar were also picked up by a team of police at about 12 noon today.

The detention of the volunteers of the JCILP came a day after the committee announced to intensify its agitation to chalk out plans to turn out non Manipuris from the localities of the state.
