Chingai MLA MK Preshow Shimaray appointed Dy Speaker

IMPHAL, July 1: Congress MLA from 45 – Chingai (ST) Assembly Constituency, MK Preshow Shimaray has been elected the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today.

The election for the seat of the Dy Speaker was conducted today during the 16th day of the 5th Session of the ongoing 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Social Welfare and Cooperative Minister Ak Mirabai was the first to propose the MLA’s name for the said post, which was seconded by Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar.

Several other MLAs who proposed MK Preshow Shimaray’s name for the post and seconded included Parliamentary Secretary Vungzagin Valte, MLA W Brajabidhu Singh, L Ibomcha Singh and E Chand Singh; Minister Md Abdul Nasir and Parliamentary Secretary Victor Keishing, N Loken Singh and Hill Areas Committee, Chairman Dr Chaltonlien Amo, Ksh Bireb Singh and Kh Devendro Singh; Dr I Ibohalbi Singh and O Lukhoi Singh, S Bira Singh and T Mangibabu Singh; Minister Ngamthang Haokip and Yamthang Haokip; Y Surchandra Singh and Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra Singh, md Fajur Rahim and Ginsuanhau; Dr Ng Bijoy Singh and D Korungthang; Minister Francis Ngajokpa and RK Anand; Minister M Okendro and Janghemlung Panmei and RK Imo Singh and Nemcha Kipgen.

However, the nomination paper with Dr V Alexander Pao as proposer and K Thamarjit Singh as seconder was invalidated due to the absence of a seconder from the House.

MK Preshow Shimaray was unanimously elected for the post after no one else filed their nomination papers.

Of the total 16 nomination papers for the Chingai MLA, 15 were announced valid.

Soon after MK Preshow Shimaray was declared as the Deputy Speaker of the House, state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who is also the leader of the House alongwith Opposition leader Dr I Ibohalbi Singh escorted him from his previous spot to the seat of the Deputy Speaker.

A brief life sketch of the new Deputy Speaker:

MK Preshow Shimray was born on April 5, 1966 at Poi village in Ukhrul district and has a BE (Civil) and ME (Environment). He won the 45 Chingai (ST) seat on a Congress ticket in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

The new Deputy Speaker is the president of both Kickboxing Association, Manipur and North-East Kickboxing Organisation.
