IMPHAL, July 22: Against the backdrop of the massive landslide occurred in Phesama near Kohima about 20 kms from Mao, Manipur in the National Highway-2 where heavy vehicles of the State got stranded as of it, works on construction of paving a new roadway by carving from a hill nearby the sunken portion have been started. Accordingly, normal movement of heavy vehicles of the State plying along the National Highway could start after the set deadline, Laishram Ratan Khuman, Gen Secy of Transporters and Drivers Forum, Manipur said to the IFP this evening.
L. Ratan stated that representatives of TDF-M had a telephonic conversation in this regard with officials of Project Sewak based in Dimapur, 15th Border Road Task Force (BRTF) Commander Colonel Tejpal Singh and 89 RCC Officer-in-Charge Prabhakumar.
He further said that 89 RCC OC Prabhakumar, one of the officials entrusted with the restoration/construction works in the wake of the road sink had informed to the representatives of TDF-M that works on carving from a hill to pave a new way has been started from July 20.
L. Ratan quoted as saying by 89 RCC OC that the 89 RCC is employing its full strenght machinery and man power even though rain has been playing spoilsport in the construction work and that technique of War Footing is also used in carving the hill to speed up the work.
The OC further exuded confidence that if the rain subside, heavy vehicles of the State could be able to ply along the road after the set deadline, he lamented.
He went on to say that the concerned officials had also invited representatives of the TDF-M to come again in Phesama for accessing the condition of the road together and that a team of TDF-M would visiting the place soon.
