IMPHAL, July 18: The All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) has today said in a press release that Manipur continues to reel under several frightening issues on a daily basis.

While rape cases of minor girls continue unabated in the state, drug related cases has only worsened the situation, it said.

It alleged that a large section of the elite groups of the society are today attracted into the drug business owing to the huge amount of profit turnover  even as the general public wants the drug trade to be stopped totally.

The statement said that just after the seizure of a huge consignment of drugs from the Imphal Airport by a SIU team, the unit was disbanded and the case transferred to the CBI.

Nevertheless, the CBI had rejected to take over the case owing to the failure of the state police to submit the chargesheet in time with an appeal for the state government to clarify on the reason for the non-submission of the chargesheet, the AMDA statement continued.

Further expressing concern over the grant of bail to Colonel Ajay Choudhary; assistant manager of Indigo Airlines, Ng Brogendro Singh and R K Bablu of Territorial Army who were arrested along with pseudoephedrine drug worth of Rs 25 crore in the international market, it has further urged all local legal experts, Young Lawyers’ Forum, AMBA and BAR associations help in the fight against drug related cases in the state.
