`HM assures arrest in auto driver case within four days`

IMPHAL, July 1: People form several communities residing in an around Mantripukhri area staged a sit in protest today on the recovery of the dead body of an auto driver with a deep gash on his head from the road connecting Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and RAU ground, Khurai.

Meanwhile, the JAC was assured later in the evening by the state Home Minister that the if any person is found to be involved in the incident, then he will be arrested within four days, according to a JAC member.

The JAC members had submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister later in the evening.

The sit in protest was organized by the JAC formed against the alleged brutal killing of Laishram Deben and the All Mantripukri Lamlongei Auto Association.

The protestors have further called an 18 hour total bandh along the National Highway number 2 from midnight today later.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the sit in protest, L Etobi general secretary of the Lamlongei Yaipha Thoudang Nupi Marup said that they have condemn the inhuman and brutal killing of the Diesel auto driver L Deben by unknown persons.

She said, L Deben who is the lone bread earner of his family had gone out of his home yesterday morning around 5 am for his work. He is survived by his wife and three children, she said.

Further demanding action from the government, she said all involved criminals should be arrested at the earliest and punished according to the law of the land.

She further continued that the state police have failed to arrest any accused involved in the killings of drivers in the state.

She said the JAC has decided to call an 18 hour bandh demanding action in the case.

Meanwhile, the president of the Transporters’ and Drivers’ Forum Manipur who was also present in the sit in protest said that the forum condemn the alleged brutal killing of L Deben and the forum also mentally and physically support the bandh called by the JAC along the National Highway from midnight today.  

Later at around 3pm, the protestors took out a rally towards the Assembly complex to submit a memorandum on the incident but were stopped by the state police team led by Addl SP, Imphal East W Rajen at Sangakpham area.

Some of the JAC members were later allowed to submit the memorandum to the state Home Minister later in the evening.

After the meeting with the state Home Minister today evening, one of the JAC member speaking to media persons said that the state Home Minister had assured the JAC members that all involved in the brutal murder of L Deben will be arrested within a period of 4 days and that the Post mortem of the deceased will be conducted in the presence of a Magistrate with a full video coverage.

Meanwhile, the JAC and family members have decided not to accept the dead body until all those involved are arrested by the police and produced before the public, she said.
