IRB action in CCpur highly condemnable; hence action initiated: Dy CM

IMPHAL, July 1: As the incident wherein four personnel of India Reserved Battalion (IRB) manhandled a woman and a man by committing several crimes including molestation at Churachandpur on June 25 which is a highly condemnable criminal act, due actions have been initiated against them from the side of the Manipur government.

This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio in Manipur Legislative Assembly today.

Following the spread of images and videos of the said incident which had been recorded on mobile phones, people voluntarily started to gather and to form a mob yesterday about 6:20pm and stormed the Churachandpur police station pelting stones, during which the gate of the police station was damaged, he said.

As soon as the information about the mob was received, actions were taken up to curb the mob with Inspector General of Police (ops) and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Range – I being sent without further delay, he pointed out and continued that when an attempt was made to control the mob, guns was fired wherein three persons were injured. All of them are being hospitalised, he said.

A separate case each regarding the first incident on June 25 and the incident which occurred yesterday evening was registered and taken up, he revealed while adding that an investigation into the incidents has been initiated. He appealed to the public of Churachandpur to stay calm through the House.
