IMPHAL, July 2: Violence against children continues to haunt the state, even as a bandh called by a JAC formed against an alleged rape of a school student had paralysed the state yesterday.
In a shocking incident, a 39 year old man has allegedly raped his own 12 year old niece at Tharoijam Maning Leikai under Patsoi police station last night.
The accused has been identified as the victim’s mother’s elder sister’s husband I Bobo, 39 son of Kameshore of Tharoijam Maning leikai a gold smith at Patsoi area.
The forensic examination of the victim was conducted today at the RIMS.
The accused has been handed over to the Patsoi police by the local meira paibis of Kairang yesterday itself.
The mother of the victim has said that since, she works as a labourer in a brick farm, her daughter had been staying with her aunt for about 10 days now.
The incident came to light after local meira paibis who were on night vigil at the road side at around 10pm last night saw the 12 year old victim coming out crying in an exhausted manner.
Meira paibis who were at the RIMS Forensic Science department while the victim was being examined, said that on seeing the girl coming out alone in a bad shape at night while holding a lamp, the meira paibis took her to the residence of the local Pradhan Th Dwijamani Awang Khunou Gram Panchayat and inquired about what happened at which the girl recounted her ordeal saying that she had been raped by her uncle.
The man was subsequently picked up from his house by the meira paibis alongwith local club members and interrogated at which he admitted to committing the heinous crime, the meira paibis alleged.
The meira paibis handed the accused over to the police.
The victim was sleeping on the floor while the daughter of the accused was sleeping on a bed in the same room when the heinous crime took place, said the meira paibis quoting the young victim.
Her aunt Sobhadani was not present in the house at the time as she was staying at her married daughter’s place at Khurai.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father has demanded extreme punishment of the accused.
