IMPHAL, July 11: While the state continues reel under crimes against women and children, a revelation by a minor that she was repeatedly raped has invited the wrath of an angry mob upon the house of the accused. It is also revealed that the minor owing to acute poverty was working as a “helper” at a lady doctor’s family since the past 2 years.
The 16 year old girl working as a helper for a doctor at Shillong today alleged that she was repeatedly raped by a local neighbor since March last and is now pregnant.
Following the revelation of the 16 year old, angered locals this evening stormed the accused’s house and dismantled it while the accused managed to ran away.
The 16 year old has alleged that the accused, Shamurailatpam Haridash Sharma (36), son of Brajabidhu of Chingtam Bamon Leikai had repeatedly raped her since March last.
The minor has said that she is the eldest amongst three siblings of a poor family and considering the plight of her family she was working as a helper for a lady doctor from Wangkhei area currently living at Shillong for the past about two years.
The accused, Haridash who was close to the doctor’s family used to accompany her while going to Shillong or coming back and that she used to address him only as “Kaka”/uncle, she said.
During her stay at home in March last, the accused came to her home and raped her following which he placed a knife on her neck and threatened that he would kill her if she disclosed about the incident to anyone, she further alleged.
She continued that she was repeatedly raped by the accused and came to know that she was pregnant at the Doctor’s residence at Shillong. She further elaborated that while at the doctor’s place she suddenly became ill, following which the lady doctor examined her and told her status.
Continuing that her family members were called in to Shillong and they returned to the state together yesterday, the girl has appealed to all concerned to find out the culprit and punish him accordingly.
