IMPHAL, July 31: A 10 day induction training program of the National Youth Corps (NYC) was opened today at the Arts and Culture Complex, Palace Compound organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Imphal Zone.
L Tilotama, vice chairperson, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India attended the function as chief guest and Jackie Ruivah, Zonal Director, NYKS Imphal Zone as president.
Altogether, 94 NYK volunteers from different districts of Manipur including 22 from CCpur, 10 from Chandel, six from Imphal East, six from Imphal West, 16 from Ukhrul, six from Bishnupur, six from Thoubal, 8 from Kangpokpi and 14 from Senapati districts.
However, 10 volunteers from Tamenglong who were supposed to attend the program were not present in time.
On the function as an introductory speech Y Laxman Singh, DYC Thoubal said that the training is to build up the skill of NYK volunteers and to impart the spirit of volunteerism.
He further said that there will be two hours of computer training during the 10 days induction training.
L Tilotama said that Nation Youth Corps have a multi-dimensional role.
Regarding the rapid increase in crimes against women in the state, she said that Manipur is now competing with Delhi.
She further said that this year, the newly selected NYK volunteers would be given training especially on two agendas- first, to work towards environmental development and secondly, to stop crime towards women.
She further urged the volunteers to consider the value of their work and not the honorarium they receive for their work.
Jackie Ruivah said that the principal objective of the ten day training program is to enhance the information base of newly deployed NYC volunteers so that they may achieve the objectives of NYC scheme like to set up a group of disciplined and dedicated youth who have inclination and spirit to engage in the task of nation building.
