PRO resends petition to leave state

IMPHAL, July 31: After the Special Court (ND&PS) rejected the prayer for leaving the state, one of the accused in the Pallel Drug seizure case, PRO Col Ajay Kumar Chowdhury has again knocked on the doors of the High Court of Manipur with a similar prayer.

Col Ajay Chowdhury, who is accused in three separate FIR cases registered with the Kakching PS was granted bail on July 17 by a Special Court (ND&PS), Manipur following which he had filed a petition to leave the state.

In his petition, the accused Ajay Chowdhury had prayed to allow him to leave the state from July 28 to August 11 for 15 days.

One of the reasons cited in the petition is that the son of the accused, namely Aditya Chowdhary has been selected for admission for the course of Marine Engineering at Tolani Maritime Institute, Induri, Talegaon, Pune and he has to attend the counseling for admission.

The hearing for the prayer from the accused was held on July 27 at the Special Court, (ND&PS), Manipur.

The ruling of the court that day included observations that, “A father’s Presence is not mandatory at the time of his son’s counselling in any professional course”, and went on to add, “The Applicant is a habitual offender in such crimes under the mask of PRO (Public Relation Officer), Defence.

The court had also observed that he had not submitted any documents supporting the selection of his son during his prayer.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the accused had on July 30 filed another petition before the High Court of Manipur to allow him to leave the state and go to Pune.

He has also submitted documents supporting that his son has been selected for admission with the Tolani Maritime Institute.

The hearing for the petition will be held on August 1, 2013.
