RTI appellant to appeal before Supreme COurt

IMPHAL, July 1: RTI appellant Dr Th Suresh Singh has today announced that he will appeal before the Supreme Court of India at the earliest against a reply from the Central Public Information Officer, PMO regarding an RTI application seeking information on the signing of the Manipur Merger Agreement signed on September 21, 1949 between the then Governor General of India and the Maharaj of Manipur.

Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, he said that he had filed an RTI application dated May 8, 2012 seeking information on whether there are any steps taken by the Government of India for the carrying out/fulfilling the obligation or undertaking contained under Article 8 (3) of the agreement dated September 21, 1949 signed between the Governor General of India and the Maharaj of Manipur and it there is, then to specify the steps taken by the government of India for the employment of Manipuris in various branches of public services and to specify the branches and the specific steps for employment of Manipuris in those branches.

The concern CPIO had replied that “The information sought by the application is not available with the CPIO”, said the dejected appellant.

Lamenting the reply of the concern CPIO, he said that he has decided to take the issue before the Supreme Court of India.

He said that since the Congress is in power in both the centre and the state, he had approached the BJP for support.

Elaborating further, he said that the BJP has also decided to help him on the issue.
