IMPHAL, July 1: A seminar on `Manipur: the Road Ahead` was held today at Hotel Classic conference hall organized by State Academy of Training with the objectives of sharing ideas between the State Government Departments, other stakeholders and NGOs on various issues in the developmental process of the State.

The function was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and PHED and Labor & Employment Minister I Hemochandra Singh as chief guest and president respectively.

Speaking at the function Gaikhangam said that “Manipur, a land bestowed with many splendored gifts of nature, a land of vibrant and energetic people has a history which is adorned with scintillating accomplishments. It has vast potential, be it human capital, tourism, IT, hydropower, and other services, which can be tapped and exploited to the best of capacity to lead the State on a path of sustained growth and development.”

“It cannot be denied that the State is faced with numerous problems today. But, this picture will not last forever and, with a concerted effort put in by all, the State can march forward to achieve success on a grand scale,” he further said.

“For the last several decades, Manipur has been driven by conflicts on issues of exclusivity, governance and integration. The conflicts have resulted in a series of flashpoints that have gained national, if not global attention,” he said.

The Dy CM said that the need of the hour is universal humanism which encompasses both humanism and human rights and goes beyond the confines of existing humanitarian armed conflict. The concept of humanitarian law should be broadened to include issues relating to human survival and welfare in the situations constituting threats to human life, dignity and development.

Today`s Seminar is an attempt towards arriving at a conclusion as to the direction in which Manipur should be moving towards by taking inputs from experts and think tanks belonging to different walks of life after a brain-storming session, he said.
