IMPHAL, July 31: Continuing with its quality drive of small time ice-cream factories opened in the state, volunteers of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, Student Wing today conducted similar drives at Palace Compound, BT Road and Nagaram D Block.

Speaking to media persons today, spokesperson M Angamba drew the attention of the state authorities towards the mushrooming of illegal and unlicensed ice-cream factories in the state. He said non-locals arriving into the state in droves in search of job thinking only for their own economic welfare are running several ice-cream vendors and factories without any official or proper quality checking which in the long run could only harm the general public of the state.

He said, today’s drive was also conducted at ice-cream parlours run by locals, however all of them produced proper official documents, while all those run by the non-locals failed to produce any official document.

Volunteers of the student committee today closed down one of the factories at Nagaram run by one Mukesh Prasad from Bihar after worms were found floating in the water used for making the ice-cream.

He further appealed to the general public not to consume such unhygienic items.

It may be mentioned that on July 26, the student wing of the joint committee had seized several rusted iron cones and trays used in making ice-creams from two ice-cream factories run by non-locals.
