IMPHAL, July 29: Three accused persons alleged involved in the killing of one Leishangthem Sanjoy of Mayang Imphal Kokchai Mamang Leikai arrested by the Lamphel police have admitted to hitting the deceased on the head during a confrontation, which is believed to have caused the death. The statement was made by the OC, Lamphel Police Inspector N Ingocha.
Sanjoy’s dead body was recovered on July 22 from Khongang ANi Karak near an oil pump.
The three arrested person have been identified as Kongkham Tomba (33), son of (L) Bheigyachandra of Nambol Kongkham Leirak, the main accused in the murder case and his two associates, Sagolsem Raju (39), son of Nanda of Moirang Sribon and Lairelakpam Jacky (38), son of (L) Ningthen of Lamlai Maning Leikai.
Speaking to the media, Inspector N Ingocha Officer In Charge of Lamphel Police said that the three accused person were arrested on the night of July 23.
During interrogation, the three had revealed that they were friends with the deceased and were all daily wage earners, he said.
They had also revealed that they used to frequently drink liquor with the victim, informed the police officer.
The three had further revealed that on July 21 around 9pm, the three alongwith the victim were at a rickshaw shed at Yengkhoiba Market Shed at Chingmeirong when the victim tried to take away a rickshaw parked at the shed which led to a confrontation between them, he said.
During the confrontation, the main accused Tomba hit the victim on the back side of his head with an iron chain which was used to lock the rickshaw, he said.
Meanwhile, hearing the commotion, two local youths came out and stopped them following which, all of them left for their rented places, the police officer said.
The next day the dead body was recovered, he said.
Police have managed to arrest all the accused with co-operation from the locals, he said.
