Corpse still at Jiri Police

JIRIBAM, August 18: The dead body of a woman who was found dead hanging yesterday at Jiribam has been brought to Jiri Police Station amid stiff insistence from the family of the deceased and Meira paibis that the dead body should not taken back to the homeplace of the deceased’s husband until the truth behind the killing of the woman is known.
The deceased has been identified as Ashangbam (o) Sardanandini Devi.
The post mortem of the dead body was conducted at Silchar Medical College, Gungoor but the body had to be kept at Jirighat Police for a certain period following the opposition raised by the family of the deceased.
Later, Jiri Police registered a case in connection with the case and the deceased’s husband, A Tiken along with the mother-in-law of the deceased A (o) Promila Devi were arrested and remanded to Jiri Police custody.
According to Jiri Police, the investigation into the case is on and as per the post mortem report, it is cleare that the woman was killed due to hanging.  The dead body would be handed over to the husband of the deceased to perform the last rites only after the two sons of the deceased reach Jiribam from Imphal.
The dead body was kept at Jiribam Police Station for a while as there is no morgue at Jiribam.
