CPI demands immediate halt of Indo-Myanmar fencing work

IMPHAL, August 1: Following the massive fencing works along the Indo-Myanmar Border, huge acres of land in Moreh were greatly affected. A large portion of land under Manipur are intended to include into Myanmar territory unreasonsably. Since the issue is of paramount importance to the State, works on fencing along the Border should be stopped immediately looking after sentiments of the people of the State.

This was stated by Dr M Nara, State Secretary CPI Manipur State Council during a press meet held at its head office, Irabat Bhavan located at BT Road around 4 this evening.

Dr Nara said he came across reports on State’s Chief Minister urging the Union Governemnt to re-survey the fencing works being done along the Indo-Myanmar Border in the daily newspapers and asked that if the reports are true then why fencing works are being taken up before conducting concrete survey along the border adding that government should taken up prompt measures before the issue gets murkier.
He further said the issues will also be brought up by MPs of the party during the Parliament Session to be started from August 5 adding that prior to the meeting of National Executive; a meeting of CPI State Executive would be convened on August 4 at Imphal soon.  

Taking part in the meeting, N. Mangi Singh, a leader of the party stated that the present border fencing has been done with ten kms away from the Myanmar’s boundary line and that such incident of threatening of State’s boundary has been taking place frequently.
