IMPHAL, August 1: Volunteers of Manipur Student Federation (MSF), Thoubal district staged a demonstration by blocking National Highway number 2 near Lilong Higher Secondary School today afternoon demanding the unconditional release of its leader.

MSF Thoubal president Md Mehtab (22), son of Nawad Ali, of Lilong Uku was arrested by Thoubal Police yesterday morning at around 4 am from his residence.

The demonstrators claimed that the student leader was arrested for his active involvement in the movement to deliver justice in the Yairipok college girl rape case.

MSF Thoubal unit volunteers at a press meet held yesterday at its office strongly condemned the police action of arresting its student leader and announced to launch intense agitation until and unless the student leader is not released without any condition.

Meanwhile, the JAC formed in connection with the Yairipok rape case has also demanded unconditional release of the student leader late by tomorrow.

JAC convenor Ayub Kori speaking to media at a press meet held today here at Hatta warned the government that they along with other civil society organizations will lunch various forms of agitations if the police fail to release the student leader within the given time period.
