RIMS inducts new batch of students

IMPHAL, August 1: An orientation cum induction program of fresh students in Medical, Dental and Nursing was held today at the Administrative Block of RIMS, said a press release of the RIMS media advisor.

It said that 49 MBBS, 16 dental and 16 Nursing students attended the function.

More students are yet to join the course including 30 MBBS and 13 BDS students from Manipur. The remaining students from other beneficiary NE and other mainland states have started arriving and they will get admitted, the official statement said.

In his speech Prof S Sekharjit, Director RIMS briefly mentioned the various facilities and subject specialties for post graduate and M Ch studies, the statement added.

The Director who is from the first batch of RMC said that he was happy to find that the doctors from this college have proved their mettle in many parts of the globe in general and NE region in particular and had further exhorted the freshers to work hard and maintain discipline, it said.

He also reminded them that ragging is not done in RIMS and perpetrators will face drastic disciplinary actions and also advised them to approach the administration to get their grievances looked into, it said.

Prof N Damayanti, head of department of Anatomy regretted that the medical students from Manipur have not come so far despite the fact that regular classes have started from today, it said.

She hoped that they will come soon since a single day`s loss is irreparable, it said.

Further according to the statement, since the academic calendar is to be maintained following the condensation of Ist MBBS course to just one year from 18 months the classes in Anatomy were started from today.

The students cannot recoup it even by drudging in the library, she said while advising the students to buy books, bones and equipments for the Anatomy classes.

Despite heavy pressure due to the increased number of students at post graduate level she said that the administrators are doing their best to provide hostel accommodation. She is also the chairman of the Hostel Development Committee, it said.

Prof R.R. Singh the Principal in charge of Dental College and Prof Jammua , Principal of College of Nursing also spoke in the brief function. Prof Singh said that there is no end of learning and disclosed that he is now in the learning process. Prof Jammuna said that the nurses and doctors are interdependent and a harmonious relation is a must for quality service to the patients, it added.
