The benefits provided to girl students under Central government schemes have never been received by girl students in Jiribam, he said while seeking the government’s attention into the matter.

The government aided Kasturba Girl’s High School located at the Jiribam’s Babupara was established in 1970. The school was started from class VI and in 1974, the school was upgraded to class IX and X. In 1980, Kasturba Girls’ High School received grant in aid from the government. According to the Patta of the school, it has 1.46 acres of land, the headmaster in charge said.

Now the school has been separated into two as the Kasturba Girls’ Govt Jr High School (from class VI to VIII) and Kasturba Girls’ aided High School (from class IX to X).

As the government has absorbed the Kasturba Girls’ Govt Jr High School (class VI to VIII), the school is running smoothly with regular attendance, he said.

On the other hand, Kasturba Girls’ aided High School (from class IX to X) is suffering in many ways, as the government has taken over it only as an aided school, he said The Headmaster in charge while seeking attention from the concerned authorities said it is the only girls’ school in Jiribam. There are many girls in Jiribam who want to attend school but have failed to admit themselves.

The teachers have admitted many students to the school and provided them with books and even school uniforms by contributing from their salaries. If the government pays their salaries according to the sixth pay, they have even planned on providing bicycles to students, the Headmaster in charge said.
