IMPHAL, August 23: A seminar on the ongoing dispute at the Indo-Myanmar border is being organised on September 1, 2013 by the United Committee Manipur (UCM), according to a press release of the committee.

The press release mentioned that Manipur Government is planning to set up a market shed at the Holenphai village which is located south of Moreh at a distance of three km from Moreh Police Station nearing Border Pillar Number 76.

The Border pillar number 76 which lies on the east of Holenphai village had disappeared sometime back and was replaced by pillar number 23 encroaching about 10 meters inside Manipur boundary, it said.

The press release further narrated the story of Holenphai village saying that the fixing of BPN 23 has caused loss of arable land of the village while adding that Myanmar army frequently threatened the villagers to leave the village.

It further questioned whether there is any hidden agenda between the Govt of India and Myanmar on the setting up of Myanmar army’s base camp at near the village.

This issue of border fencing and Myanmar army’s base camp has provoked the people of Manipur, it said.

It further said that the Govt of India has failed to show any interest which has aroused the people of Manipur thereby inviting violent agitations, it said.
