LAMKA, August 1: The Zomi Youth Association (ZYA) , which had been formed with seven constituent units, today inaugurated the ZYA Lamla Block at YPA Hall, Hiangtam Lamka attended by several leaders of Ccpur including MLA GS Haupu; Parliamentary Secy Vungzagin Valte; ADCC Chairman Langkhanpau Guite.
Zomi Reunification Organization president Thangliangpau Guite was the chief host of the function.
Speaking on the occasion, chief host Thanglianpau Guite said that the aim/idea behind the formation of ZYA is to unite the Zo Suan (Zo descendent).
“Unity alone will enable us to stand firm and strong in the long run”, he said and continued, “We must take the responsibility of uniting all of the Zo Suan as no one will do it for us”.
“Community based set up or patronization will not be sustainable in the long run for us and for this we must stand on one feet and speak in one voice which also is the only way to catch up/compete with others who are more developed to us”, the chief host said before adding that for a common platform and unity for the Zo Suan, Hill People Forum had been set up recently which will hold a conference in the latter part of this year.
Other speakers like GS Haupu and Langkhanpau Guite also express the hope that the ZYA will be a useful tool in uniting the Zo people.
Vungzagin Valte speaking on the occasion expressed his hope that the ZYA, which has four regional headquarters, one being the one inaugurated today and 101 units, will be an important instrument in transforming the society and at the same time an important agency to aid and help the Government implement its development project to be more productive.
