AMDWA conference begins

    IMPHAL, September 24: The All Manipur Democratic Women’s Association (AMDWA) today inaugurated its fourth Manipur State Conference at the Youth Hostel, Kuman Lampak, Imphal.

    The conference will conclude tomorrow.

    Speaking at the function President of AMDWA, Y Romola Devi said the association was established on September 25, 1995 and has over 3000 members.

    She said AMDWA is affiliated to the All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) which has more than six crore members and is the second largest women association in the world.

    She further said that AMDWA will fight against AFSPA and will support Irom Chanu Sharmila.

    Under the aegis of AIDWA, the AMDWA seeks reservation for women in state assembly and 33 percent seats reservation in Parliament, she said and continued that AMDWA will fight against crime against women and killing of female foetus and discrimination in giving daily wages.

    Manipur State Archives, Deputy Director, W Shushila said the crimes against women are atrocities and requires proper understating among the people to check its growth.
