IMPHAL, September 28: Against the backdrop of attempts made by the government and NGOs to bring quality education in the state, an assistant graduate teacher of Ithai Khunou Government High School, was found absent for over seven months.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Manipuri Student’s Federation has demanded the authority concerned to take immediate action against the erring teacher.

A press meet was held in this connection at MSF office located at Dobi Machu Leirak, Machin, with Serajudin, vice president MSF as the spokesperson. The teacher has been identified as Konsam Sunita Devi, Arts Graduate Assistant teacher of RMSA (MIL), appointed in the year 2011, Ithai Khunou Government High school under Kumbi, Bishnupur district.

The spokesperson said that Konsam Sunita did not intimate the higher authorities for her long absence from duty.

However, on May 6, 2013, she applied for medical leave for 26 days to the concerned ZEO Kh Yaima, he said. The action of the teacher who teaches Manipuri is likely to take a heavy toll on 15 students of the school, who will appear in the 2014 high school leaving certificate examination. The students have been deprived of the subject (Manipuri) for over seven months with no replacement teacher, said Serajudin.

At the same time, for Ithai Khunou Government High School, the 15 students will be the first to appear in the HSLC exam, added Serajudin.

The MSF vice president held that Konsam Sunita will be held responsible if any of the students fail in the particular subject.

He further questioned why action was not taken against Sunita till date by the concerned department.

It has been informed that on 28 February 20013, Sunita was transferred from the Ithai Khunou Government High Government school to Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Government High School.

However, her transfer order was cancelled on March 21, 2013, due to public pressure who urged the authority not to transfer her as no replacement teacher was available in the school.

Despite the cancellation of transfer she was found not attending the Ithai Khunou Govt High School, for seven months.
