Kim Gangte meets PM on border fencing

IMPHAL, Sept 5: The president of the Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee, Kim Gangte Ex MP has today said in a press conference held at  the party`s office at Hotel Excellency at 1:00 pm that she met the Prime Minister of India on the issue of border fencing and submitted a memorandum over the issue.

Kim Gangte asserted that both the Centre and State Govt should give attention on the border issue before adding that the people of the state is getting anxiety about the situation arising out of this sensitive border fencing.

She further stressed that the Govt should ponder a lot on this matter and immediately should take the stock of the situation at the border and further charged that 16 km of territorial land of Manipur goes to Myanmar territory because of the ongoing border fencing.

The ex MP continued that the Trinamool Congress wants to know the real situation about the border fencing demanding that every Manipuri has the right to know the present situation on this issue. She also mentioned that it was a border of Manipur before Manipur merged to Indian Union further adding that it is now become the border of India.

The president of the Trinamool Congress of Manipur told media person that she wanted to know person who takes responsibility on this issue. She cited the case of river dispute in West Bengal of which the Chief Minister of West Bengal took up proactive action. She questioned the Govt of Manipur for not taking any action this regard.

The Trinamool Congress broadly urged the chief minister of Manipur, O Ibobi Singh and all political parties to consider the consequences of the fencing and to discuss the issue with the people of Manipur so that the issue could resolve at the soonest.

Kim Gangte sldo pointed out during the press conference the ,matter of compensations for the people of the border area. In this regard, she appealed the people not to bargain for money but to save the land and further appealed to the villagers to stay back from such compensation motive. She again appealed the political party, social organisations and villagers to join in this border fencing issue so as to save the land.

During the press conference, she also spoke about food security of the people in view of the soaring prices of the essential commodities of human consumables. She further stressed that common people could not survive as their purchase capacity is decreasing a lot.
