Manipur HC rejects anticipatory bail for Ali in Moreh drug case

IMPHAL, September 5: The High Court of Manipur on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by Md Ali who is the alleged owner of the illegal drugs reportedly seized from the possession of a Moreh CDO team from near Pallel police station on April 28, 2013 early morning.        Md Ali alias Lique Ali alias Mujibur Rahaman,(34), son of Md Kasim Ali, of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai under Lilong police station in Thoubal district, handed over the illegal drugs packed in three separate bags to the commando team at Khongjom Patpal Lamkhai on April 28, 2013 at around 5 am.

The team led by Moreh Commando Post Sub Inspector Beishamayum Debson Singh, son of B Deven Singh of Singjamei Bheigyapati Leikai and IRB Jemadar (JC No 727) Heisnam Premananda Singh, son of H Rupmohon Singh of Iram Shiphai Mamang Leikai, were in turn supposed to hand over the packages to Md Ali’s associates at Moreh.

However, a team of Thoubal district police commandos led by SI L Dhanabi Singh and Havildar A Keshorjit Singh arrested them along with the illegal drugs worth around Rs 1,21,34,000 at around 6 am at near the New Building gate of Pallel police station.

The team of 10 CDO personnel of Moreh Commando Post were coming from Imphal towards Moreh when they were arrested by the other CDO team.  

The two arrested officers SI B Debson and Jemadar H Premananda during police interrogation revealed the name of the said drug owner and other details.  

The Thoubal commandos arrested the 10 CDO personnel including the two officers and seized the arms and ammunitions which include three 9 mm pistols, 7 AK rifles and its ammunition from their possession besides the drugs.       

In regard with the incident, a case under FIR No 62 (4) 2013 KCG PS u/s 29/25 (A)/27 (A) ND & PS Act and 27 Arms Act was registered at Kakching police station.

Police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the ND & PS court on July 27, 2013. However, the real owner of the illegal drugs has not been arrested till today.
