Security forces rescue abducted youths, two captors arrested: Police

IMPHAL, September 4: A combined team of Thoubal District police and 40 Assam Rifles have rescued two persons from the captivity of banned militant outfit, United People Revolutionary Front (UPRF) on September 2 at around 9:30 pm from Lilong Chowbok under Lilong police station in Thoubal District, police said.

Two cadres of the banned outfit were arrested and recovered a 9mm Pistol during the rescue operation. The two arrested UPRF cadres have been identified as Md Ahniskhan (25), son of Md Abdul Rashid of Lilong Heinoumakhong and Md Riyauddin (24), son of Md Abdul of Lilong Kaleikhong.

The two were produced before the media persons along with the seized 9 mm pistol with four live rounds at Lilong police station today morning.

Speaking to media persons today, Thoubal SDPO Lalboi Haokip said that the police received specific information about a militant outfit holding two persons in captivity at Lilong in Imphal West district at around 7:30 pm of September 2. A combined team of Lilong police, Thoubal CDOs and 40 Assam Rifles conducted a search operation in the Lilong area at around 8:30 pm, the officer said.     

During the search operation two youths were seen coming in a suspicious manner following which the two were detained by the police, he said.

On searching the two youth, one 9mm pistol was recovered from the possession of Md Ahniskhan along with a mobile phone, the officer maintained.

During interrogation, the two youths revealed that they have abducted two youths from Imphal and have kept them at the western side of Lilong Chowbok hill, the officer said.

Following which the two abducted persons were rescued by the combined team at around 9.30 pm on September 2 and further investigation is going on, the officer added.
