Sharing a common language can bring peace in the state, says RV Mingthing

IMPHAL, September 28: The Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, AMKIL and the National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) jointly observed the Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day at the Lamyanba Shanglen, Konung Mamang. The observation was attended by chairman 13th Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day Observance Committee and president, Apunba Manipur Kanba  Ima Lup (AMKIL) Phanjoubam Shakhi Leima; vice-chairman 13th Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day Observance Committee and president  National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) Sunil Karam; ex-minister RV Mingthing; vice-president, Zeliangrong Union, Imphal Zone DH Gaikhemmei; president Kuki Innpi Manipur (KIM) Thangkhosei Khongsai; Assistant Professor, Dept of Geography GP Women’s College Dr M Baharuddin Shah; treasurer, Koreng Bible Translation Pastor Kungsong Wanbe; president Chiru Union NEI Areng Zatak; S Boilen Komn chief of Khongnangpokpi villages was the presidium members.

RV Mingthing said that in the past there was not much solidarity and integrity amongst the people in the state and none to organize anything which encourages integrity, nevertheless the people used to stay peacefully.

Citing that in the history of Manipur, both hills and villages in the valley were peaceful and united. The population is increasing daily however, the size of land remains static, he said.

He further appealed to the people to stay united in a peaceful manner. However, he added, the most important thing at the moment is to create a healthy relation amongst the hills and the valley. Only good human relations can bring peace in the state, he said.

DH Gaikhemmei mentioned that if we want to bring development in our state then we should discard thinking just for ourselves, and as long as people continue thinking of separation, there will be no peace in our state.

Only lip service cannot work, there is also the need for action in the state to bring development, he said while, adding that people should not discriminate amongst one another.

Sunil Karam in his speech mentioned that the Manipur integrity and solidarity was formed in 2000 in support of territorial integrity and against separation of the hills and the valley.

“We, the people of Manipur should join together and face the problem whatever it is coming in the future. We should not draw a boundary among the rich and poor”, he said.

He further condemned the ongoing Indo-Myanmar border fencing.
