LAMKA, September 6: Addressing a press meet at M Songgel Village in CCpur, Trinamool Congress Manipur president, Kim Gangte  accused  the incumbent Congress govt at the center and the state of neglecting the rights and development of the tribal/hills people in the state.

She said that the Indo-Myanmar border fencing has intruded about 16 km into the Indian side displacing more than 20 villages and asked why the govt is silent and asked if there is a secret agenda in the border fencing.

She urged the govt to convene an all political party meet cutting across party lines within a weeks-time.

She said, her party has recently submitted a memorandum on this regard to the PM.

She also said that the much hyped Food Security Bill (FSB) that was recently passed by the Parliament sans TC support is nothing but a ploy to get votes for the coming general election.

To prove her point, she said that when the Food Security promises Rice for Rs 3 per kg and Atta for Rs 2 per kg, prices of other commodities like tomato, potato, dal, petrol, diesel etc are sky rocketing.

She said, the deficit in price of rice as compared with the present market price of Rs 28/kg will be met with the rise in the prices of other commodities.

She further questioned the wisdom of the FSB and said providing Rice at a low price alone is not the solution to food security as one cannot eat rice alone.

Further during the press conference, she lamented that the Manipur Development Society (MDS) had no visible accomplishment in the hill particularly in CCpur.

She also said that the Tribal Welfare (TD) department is not doing anything for the tribal as the officials is working for the govt. and not for the people.’’

To bring development to the hills area of Manipur, Kim Gangte proposed that the govt confer powers to the elected MDCs of the state who were promised the control of 28 departments at the beginning but which is yet to materialize till now.
